- 3000 Aus POWs captured during WWII
- Japanese captured 21, 467 Aus. 800 died through executions, beatings, slave labour, starvation and disease
- POWs were held in South Pacific – Japan and Korea
- Japanese had little respect for POWs (cultural)
Aus Women at War
- Women took on jobs previously given to men (munition, ship/air craft maintenance, services and repairs)
- Women were trained to fight in the war in case Australia was invaded
Asia after the War
- United Nations (UN) formed in 1945 to replace League of Nations
Movements for Asian Independence
- Europe controlled Asian colonies before the war – after WW II Asia wanted independence from Europe = movement for Asia
